K-Beauty Gets the Gen-X Side-Eye

K-beauty has a habit of making products look effortlessly adorable while leaving the rest of us wondering whether they’ll actually survive coffee, conversation, and the general chaos of adult life.

As a Gen X woman with cool-toned skin and precisely zero patience for overhyped nonsense, I put the Colourgram Lip Stain + Gloss combo to the test.

The contenders? Dainty Cherry and Sulking Watermelon.

Here’s what happened.

First Impressions: This Feels… Suspiciously Watery?

If you’re used to more traditional lip stains or oil-based lip products, the Colourgram formula feels very different.

It’s an ultra-lightweight water formula that, on first swipe, genuinely made me think:

“Well this is absolutely going to end up all over my face.”

Spoiler: it didn’t.

Application was surprisingly precise, smooth, and far easier to control than expected. Once on, it dries down quickly and feels like… honestly, nothing.

No heaviness. No tackiness. No weird crusty lip drama.

Just colour.

Shade Review

Colorgram Dainty Cherry

This is a vibrant red, but importantly, not an aggressive orange-red.

It doesn’t lean especially cool, but somehow still works beautifully on my cool-toned complexion without making me look like I’ve borrowed someone else’s lipstick.

That’s rarer than it should be.

It gives that fresh, lively pop of colour without tipping into retro pin-up territory.

Verdict: Surprisingly flattering.

Colorgram Sulking Watermelon

Oh now this is the one.

Sulking Watermelon is a vibrant cool-toned pink, and frankly, she understood the assignment.

Bright, fresh, flattering, youthful without trying too hard.

This is the shade I can see myself reaching for regularly.

If you suit pinks, this is a very easy yes.

Verdict: Winner.

Staying Power: The Real Test

A lip stain can look gorgeous for 14 minutes. That’s not impressive.

The actual question is:

Can it survive being a functioning human?

In this case: yes.

The stain held up through:

  • multiple drinks
  • meals
  • general day-to-day existence

It only needed topped up after my main meal of the day, which is genuinely solid performance.

Especially for something that feels this lightweight.

The Gloss: Cute But Absolutely Not For Me

The gloss topper delivers a dramatic, juicy high-shine finish.

Visually? Fun.

Practically? Absolutely not.

It’s very sticky.

Like, “one gust of wind and your hair is now part of the look” sticky.

If you love ultra-glossy lips and don’t mind tackiness, you may enjoy it.

For me? It’s a no.

The stain itself is excellent. The gloss feels entirely optional.
